The Google Applications, Utility and Plug-in For BlackBerry

Google Apps For BlackBerry

Smartphone without any Google app is hard to find and the BlackBerry is no exception to it. Most Google Apps (software, plug-in) for BlackBerry are truly productive and fills the gap between BlackBerry OS and other native Google web applications. There are 7 Google apps (including Google talk and enhanced Gmail Plug-in by RIM) available for BlackBerry which can be downloaded and installed on a BlackBerry. Let’s take the overview of these Google applications and see how many of these do you use currently on your BlackBerry?

Google Mobile App

Google Mobile App

Released in September 2008, this is one of the must have app in my list for BlackBerry. This app not only provides faster web search but now you can also search your email and contacts. After installing this app, it provides much faster access to Google services, including Maps, Gmail, News and more. By any chance if you haven’t used this app, download it first after reading this post.

To download the Google Mobile App, visit on your BlackBerry’s Browser.

Google Maps

I am not sure about you but I can’t live without Google Maps. With the recent introduction of layers and lightning fast loading because of Google Mobile App, you’re never lost in the world.

Some of the features include- see your location on a map even if you don’t have GPS, driving directions, transit directions, real-time traffic, streets view, layers of geographic information, see your friends’ locations and share yours with latitude, search for any business or category of interest and more.

To download Google Maps, visit on your BlackBerry’s Browser, or it can be downloaded via above Google Mobile App.

Google Sync

I consider this as a more of utility not an application for a BlackBerry. if you have Gmail on your BlackBerry then you definitely need Google Sync to get two-way synchronization over the air for your contacts and calendar entries. It will sync your Gmail contacts with BlackBerry address book and Google calendar with BlackBerry’s built-in calendar. BlackBerry OS 5.0 is said to provide two way Gmail contacts sync through BIS and in that case this app may not be required to sync contacts.

To download Google Sync, visit on your BlackBerry’s Browser.

Google Voice

Need less to say, this app will work with your Google voice number. You can use the app to make outgoing SMS messages and calls from your Google Voice number. The Google Voice app integrates seamlessly with your phone’s native address book, making it even easier to call or text with your Voice number. Voicemails are automatically transcribed to text so you can read them like email. You can also make low-priced international calls directly from your phone.

To download Google Voice, visit on your BlackBerry’s Browser.

Google Talk for BlackBerry

Google Talk is an instant messaging client for BlackBerry. Stay connected with Gtalk friends while you are on the go. It provides virtual real-time chat, share pictures with your Google Talk contacts, update your availability status, change or update your profile picture directly from your BlackBerry, chat with multiple contacts or participate in multiple conversations at the same time and more.

To download Google Talk, visit from your BlackBerry’s Browser.

Enhanced Gmail Plug-In

Enhanced Gmail Plug-In

When you set up new Gmail on your BlackBerry via BIS, along with registration email you also get email to download enhanced Gmail Plug-in. With this you can archive your emails (Gmail), report spam messages, organize your messages by applying labels and stars, search all your Gmail/Google Mail emails directly from your BlackBerry, find related messages with the conversation view and more.

To download enhanced Gmail Plug-in, visit from your BlackBerry browser.

This one is stand alone Gmail app which does not require you to set up your Gmail via BIS. I do not use this app and I think it may be good for users who do not have any data plan but using Wi-Fi to surf Internet. It’s mobile Gmail app on a BlackBerry which has similar Gmail functionality.

To download Gmail App, visit from your BlackBerry browser.

Other than above, you can access other Google mobile specific sites like,,, etc.

Out of above I am using 5 Google apps, how many do you use on your BlackBerry?
