The PC is missing the Standard Modem

There was a guide on the RIM's site but it's not available now on "How to install Standard Modem" (http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB20470)

Please search Google on how to install/bring Standard Modem in Window's PC

There could be multiple reasons for this. It's hard to find the route cause of the problem with limited info. Please check following things/ answer to find out what's happening.

1) In Canada, we don't have any access to the Internet from prepaid BlackBerry account. (as far as I know). I am not sure how it works with DigiCell.
2) You may want to check out with DigiCell first, if they have any restrictions on your account for continuous data usage
3) Do you experience poor cellphone coverage from DigiCell in your area
4) Check if the SIM card you're using is very OLD (more than 2-3 years old)
5) Do you experience dropping of calls/ signal while using BlackBerry to talk
6) Does it happen on other PCs
6) Try and reinstall the OS to the latest one

The error and resolution is mentioned in the bottom of the above post. Just make sure the profile you have selected in IP Modem is correct. I would also suggest you to uninstall Desktop Manager - restart PC - reinstall the Desktop Manager. (This may help or ruin the situation)

It looks like, once the IP modem is used on your Vista, the DUN profiles in the backend in the PC are still showing as being used or some sort of connection setting in the PC which is getting fixed when you restart the PC.

Does it happen with other PCs too? Based on my experience, it looks like a PC problem/setting.

If reinstalling the Desktop Manager doesn't help then try creating new custom profile in IP Modem and see if it helps.

I got the following error:
BlackBerry Desktop Manager failed to start an IP modem session using the connected device:

A connection to the remote computer could not be established. You might need to change the network settings for this connection.

Please check your profile settings and make sure your radio is turned on. This service might also have been turned off by your wireless service provider or your administrator.

I'm using Vista btw.

Thanks

I have a bold 9000. My IP Modem connection works fine in the beginning, but after my blackberry got disconnected from my PC and I try to reconnect the IP modem again, I got an error. However, after I restart my PC, it can connect just fine again. Is there a solution so that I don't have to restart my PC to be able to reconnect to the modem?

@Leo

Check what RIM says about missing IP Modem icon http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB20470

Since your PC has standard modem, it could be the new OS you've installed and that's the only thing changed from the last time it was working. The above article also says in Additional Information that your service provider can block it.

Though, as per my experience chances are the problem is related to PC not the BlackBerry.

I'll still advise you to test with other PC and see what happens. If it works on other PC then it's probably some settings on this Win7.

Ok, I'm not too concerned about the email icon. My main concern is in fact the IP modem facility.

When I went to the Device Manager, it did show "Standard Modem", which from what I understand, the Blackberry software actually put it there. I tried to disable it and re-enable it, but made no difference.

I'm at a loss as to where to from now.
