How to Unlock BlackBerry and Enter Unlock Code
A Blackberry is only locked by the carrier you bought the phone from and will not allow you to use different carrier SIM card. When you travel overseas with your BlackBerry then you may want to use the local wireless carrier SIM card to save money on international/ roaming/ long distance charges or if you are planning to send the BlackBerry to some one in different country, you will have to unlock your BlackBerry. Blackberry unlocking completely removes the the SIM restriction from your Blackberry which allows you to use it with any GSM network worldwide.
You can only unlock GSM BlackBerry which carry SIM card. You will not be able to unlock CDMA BlackBerry which do not have SIM card inside.
How it works
First step in unlocking BlackBerry is to get the unlock code for your BlackBerry. This unlock code is different for different BlackBerry and it is based on the IMEI number of a BlackBerry. Once you have the unlock code, you need to enter into BlackBerry which will unlock it and allow you to use other GSM SIM cards.
You can find the IMEI number of your BlackBerry by dialing *#06#. The second way to find IMEI number is going into Options – Status on your BlackBerry. You can also take the battery out and you will find the IMEI number on the white sticker.
Getting the BlackBerry Unlock Code
There are many online sites which provide unlock code for BlackBerry. Your local cell phone repair shop might be unlocking the BlackBerry devices. Charges will vary depending on the country and service provider.
The Phone Unlockers
Personally I have had good experience with The Phone Unlockers. They can unlock pretty much most BlackBerry phone/network combination. They accept all major credit cards and payments via PayPal too. You get the unlock code via email in around 3 minutes with 100% guarantee from them. The email you receive from them also contains step-by-step instructions telling you exactly how to enter the unlock code. Visit The Phone Unlockers.
Other Providers
Personally I haven’t got a chance to use other unlock code providers but you can check out these providers to get more info. CarrierUnlock, Cell Unlock, Unlocking, TheRemoteUnlocker, ExpressUnlockCode, unlockmybberry.
Your Wireless Carrier
Your wireless carrier may be providing the unlock code with certain restrictions for free or with certain charges. For e.g. if you are T-Mobile, USA customer then you need to be under contract for at least 90 days to get the free unlock code. If you are Rogers customer in Canada then you are out of luck, as they stopped providing unlock codes since year 2007.
