How to re-validate your Windows Live (Hotmail, MSN), Gmail, Yahoo email on BlackBerry integrated with BIS

This post is intended for those BlackBerry users who have recently set up emails on their BlackBerry device with BIS (BlackBerry Internet Service) integration. Expert BlackBerry users (if reading this post) can jump to comments at the end and leave feedback.

When you change the login password of your existing email account set up on BlackBerry device, then you will have to update the same on BIS to continue receiving emails on BlackBerry device. For Windows Live (Hotmail, MSN) emails you have to re-validate email a/c at every 90 days even if you do not change your Windows Live password. Many times it also invalidate your BIS email for unknown reasons to you as users but it does happen when your integrated email servers are down for certain period of time. There are many more reasons..but let me save your time instead and let’s look at how to re-validate BIS integrated email a/c.

Three ways to re-validate

1. From the BlackBerry smartphone

To validate your account from your BlackBerry smartphone, complete the following steps. This should work even if you do not have browsing data plan from your wireless carrier. This has been tested on Rogers Wireless Network in Canada.

1. Click the Email Settings icon either located in the Setup folder or on the BlackBerry smartphone Home screen.
2. If necessary type your user name and password.
3. Go to Email Accounts.
4. Select edit the email account.
5. Type your password.
6. Click Save.

2. From your computer

To validate your account from your computer, complete the following steps:

1. Browse to your wireless service provider’s web site. (See the list below)
2. Type your user name and password.
3. If you do not have a user name and password, see KB18258 or easy way is to call your wireless service provider’s BlackBerry technical support
4. Go to Email Accounts.
5. Edit the email account.
6. Type your password.
7. Click Save.

3. Call your wireless service provider’s BlackBerry support

I am not sure, how happy you are with your carrier’s technical support service for BlackBerry but in case if you are willing to share your email password with tech. rep over a phone then give it a try.  Not advisable to call from BlackBerry device itself if you have alternate landline phone available but last resort may be.
