How to back up and restore 3rd party applications on a BlackBerry smartphone
While using a BlackBerry smartphone you are definitely going to come across a situation where you need to back up your 3rd party applications, be it premium software, premium themes, games or any freeware. If you are changing your BlackBerry device or upgrading your BlackBerry OS, this handy how to tutorial will help you back up- restore these 3rd party apps in one shot.
Back up process:
Step-1
Open the BlackBerry Desktop Manager and connect your BlackBerry device to your PC/Laptop. If you do not have it installed then download BlackBerry Desktop Manger and remember to disconnect your BlackBerry while your are installing Desktop Manager.
After you connect your BlackBerry device, make sure Desktop Manager detects your device PIN and then click on Device Switch Wizard icon.

In the Device Switch Wizard screen, click Start for Switch BlackBerry devices

On the right-hand side Options section make sure only “Third-party applications” is checked. Now click “Next”. Enter the password if it prompts.

The Device Switch Wizard is now backing up your third-party applications. Once it is finished do not click “Cancel” or “Next.”

We need to find and move above back up folder from your PC hard drive. On your computer’s desktop go to Start > Search and search your hard-drive for your device’s PIN number. Make sure that you search hidden files and folders. You will find a folder
with the same name as your PIN as well as a .alx file. Copy – Paste that folder and file onto your Desktop/ My documents/any easy to remember place. Also move the .alx file into the folder which has your PIN on it. Go back to Desktop Manager and cancel the Device Switch Wizard.
That’s it! We have backed up your third-party apps.
Step-1
Open the Desktop Manager and connect your BlackBerry on which you want to restore 3rd party apps. Enter device password if you have one enabled. Click on Application Loader icon on the Desktop Manager screen.

In Application Loader screen, click “Start” on the left hand side Add / Remove Applications section.

Once Desktop Manager scans your device, click on “Browse” and locate the folder named after your PIN that contains your application back-ups and .alx file.
