How to add Ringtones to your BlackBerry


In this tutorial, I assume you have already downloaded the mp3 Ringtones based on your liking. If not, head over to Free BlackBerry Ringtones gallery and download couple of Ringtones. From here, there are couple of different ways to get the ringtones  on the BlackBerry device. Select any option from below which ever best suites your situation.

Transfer Ringtones to Media Card on BlackBerry from Windows PC

This is the easiest way among all. You’ll need PC with Desktop Manager installed, Media Card, BlackBerry, Data Cable and mp3 Ringtones on your PC.

  1. Install the BlackBerry Desktop Manager. (because it will install the device drivers for your BlackBerry)
  2. Check the Media Card settings: On your BlackBerry device go to Options >> Media Card or Memory.

  3. Change the settings to the one displayed in above image if different. If you have made any changes then remember to press Menu key and click Save
  4. Connect your BlackBerry to PC with data cable. You will see the Removable Drive Window like in above Image and then click Open folder to view files. You will see BlackBerry folder and into that you will see many subfolders like “documents”, “pictures”, “ringtones” etc.
  5. Copy, Paste your mp3 Ringtones files from your PC hard drive to the “ringtones” folder and that’s it. You’re done!

Transfer Ringtones to BlackBerry Device Memory from Windows PC

If you do not have Media Card installed on your BlackBerry then this is the other way left. I strongly advise to use Media Card to store music, pictures or videos because that way your BlackBerry device will always have sufficient free memory to give you optimum performance.

  1. Make sure you have BlackBerry Desktop Manger with Media Manager installed.
    You may want to know more about new Desktop Manger 5.0 which has enhancement for Media Manger. Download Desktop Manager 5.0 and install it on your PC.
  2. Open the Desktop Manager and connect your BlackBerry to PC with data cable.
  3. On your PC – Desktop Manger, Click on Media and Start or Launch Media Manager on left
  4. In Media Manager, click on Folders tab to view the list of files on your computer and go to your PC hard drive folder where you have mp3 ringtones stored
  5. In the lower left window, under My Devices, click “ringtones” folder of your BlackBerry Device.
  6. Click “Copy Down
  7. In the Copy Files box, click the “Convert for Optimal Playback” bullet, then the OK button.

Email Ringtones to BlackBerry Device

  1. email ringtones as attachment from your PC to your BlackBerry device email
  2. Open the email on your BlackBerry device, press Menu button and click on Download Attachment
  3. Make sure in Select Folder screen on your BlackBerry has /ringtones/ folder at the end
  4. Press Menu button and click Select Here to save it to your BlackBerry device and your download will begin

Transfer Ringtones to BlackBerry from MAC

As a MAC user, you know that MAC do not use USB and the only other way for you is to transfer it through Bluetooth.

  1. Open the Media application on your Blackberry
  2. Click Ring Tones
  3. Click All Ringtones
  4. Press Menu button on your BlackBerry
  5. Click Receive using  Bluetooth. Click Yes if it ask you to enable Bluetooth and you will see ‘waiting for connection” message
  6. On your Mac, launch Bluetooth File Exchange
  7. Click Send File and choose your Blackberry as the device
  8. Click Send
  9. Now on your Blackberry dialog box, click Save, and the file will be added to your Blackberry device.

How to change Ringtones to the one you have just transferred to your BlackBerry

  1. Open the Media application on your Blackberry
  2. Click Ring Tones
  3. Click All Ringtones
  4. Highlight the Ringtones you would like to set as Ringtone
  5. Press Menu button and click Set As Ring Tone and click OK
