Enhanced Gmail Plugin For BlackBerry Now Available!
Finally there are good news for BlackBerry Gmail users on BIS about new features available with Gmail plugin. See the following announcement.
The Enhanced Google Mail™ plug-in for BlackBerry® smartphones introduces an advanced level of email service integration for BlackBerry smartphones. It supports additional Google Mail™ features that provide BlackBerry® Internet Service subscribers with broader access to their Google Mail accounts while on the go. The Enhanced Google Mail plug-in is optional. Existing and new Google Mail integrations will continue to function without it.
To get this update for Gmail, all you have to do is
- Make sure IMAP is enabled in your Gmail account settings
- Delete your existing Gmail account from your carrier BIS site and re add it again
- Download and install the Gmail Plugin
Features:
- Add and remove labels and stars on email messages
- Report spam email messages
- Perform local and remote searches
- Archive email messages
- View related email messages as a single conversation (threaded view)
Synchronization only happens from your BlackBerry to your Google Mail account, meaning some changes made through your Google Mail account won’t sync to your BlackBerry(One way synch). In order to get the download link if you already have a gmail account set up on your BlackBerry you will need to delete and re-add your account and a PIN message will be sent to you with the link. The enhanced plugin is available for all device 4.5 OS+ and the official BlackBerry forums has a great getting started guide available.

For there is a conflict with the “Advanced IMAP Controls” plugin from Google Labs. You have to disable it in Gmail before the BlackBerry will accept your Gmail account is IMAP.
