CES 2010 Update – What’s Being Showcased For BlackBerry

CES-BlackBerry Consumer Electronics Show (CES) held at Las Vegas is the biggest consumer technology trade show in the United States. This year we have not seen RIM unveiling new BlackBerry device but we do have lots of new updates from developer community showcasing newer release of their BlackBerry apps and solutions. The updates we have from CES are from Poynt, LinkedIn, Thumbplay, Kodak Print App, Xobni, Slacker and more to come. The RIM booth at CES is also full of complete product line up with live demos and interactive for technology lovers.


Poyntupdate Poynt , a very popular BlackBerry app providing location-based services has updated with more exciting features. The app has now moved out of beta and the current version stands at for download. The Poynt is kind of all-in-one search tool to get information about local businesses and theaters at the moment you want to buy or acquire products or services. You can find addresses and phone numbers, view websites, see movie show times, reviews and trailers, and get directions too.The new version includes enhancements in UI, live updating weather backgrounds, option to search local gas prices and more. LinkedIn app for BlackBerry has not been released yet, but Doug from Inside BlackBerry blog, has caught up with the folks from LinkedIn for a hands on video showing initial glimpse of the app. The LinkedIn app for BlackBerry will be available via BlackBerry App world when it’s released out of beta version. LinkedIn  is very popular social networking site amongst business professionals and you can get more info about this site at http://blog.linkedin.com.


Thumbplay Music announced their private beta Thumbplay Music app for BlackBerry smartphones. Currently it is supported on BlackBerry Tour 9630, Bold 9000 and Curve 8900. The exciting feature of the app is the playlist re-creation – a useful way for getting playlists purchased from the iTunes store, similar to BlackBerry Media Sync which allows users to easily port iTunes and Windows Media Player libraries to their smartphones. Kodak Print App

The Kodak Print App will be available in BlackBerry App World in March which will allow printing documents and email directly from the BlackBerry. The newly release printers from Kodak are designed to have built in support for this BlackBerry app.


Xobni (it’s inbox spelled backwards), a Microsoft Outlook plug-in that enhances your email experience in a variety of different ways. This app also tracks stats such as conversations and frequency of communication, allowing you to get a good handle on the contacts you talk to most. The Xobni application for BlackBerry smartphones is currently in beta and expected to be released some time in 1st quarter of this year. Slacker Radio

Slacker Radio, a free app is expected to be released for Canadian users soon. The beta version 3.0 includes major changes in UI, better navigation options and tons of tweaks in the Settings to enhance Slacker experience. The new beta also allows for streaming and caching over Wifi which is definitely a big update to save on data usage.
