There have been more buzz in recent time regarding upcoming BlackBerry OS 6.0. Well, exciting news for all BlackBerry fans as we have some real screen shots of BlackBerry OS 6.0 with tons of new features. The new Operating System brings the feeling of getting a new device along with better and newer functionality without spending a dime which is always welcome. BGR got some nice information about BlackBerry OS 6.0. Check out some of these great features it has, including tabbed browsing with WebKit, customizable home screen and more.

As per the above image taken from PDF document, Verizon Wireless will offer free Push to Talk service to BlackBerry customers (Only Tour 9630 is supported currently, other devices may get it) who meet the above eligibility criteria plus have monthly voice and data plan of $34.99 or higher. To get this service for free, BlackBerry customers on Verizon Wireless needs to activate this feature before the promotion expires on June 30, 2010. This sounds like a very good deal if you already have eligible data plan. For full details check out the PDF document.

Fido users in Canada have something to get excited about as they might be getting much awaited BlackBerry Pearl 9100 before any other wireless carrier. As seen in this leaked image, Fido will be launching BlackBerry Pearl 9100 on May 4th 2010. At this point of time, this is so far the solid proof we have for the Pearl 9100 launch date and the carrier it is releasing to.

This is indeed good news for Fido users, as Fido has the history of getting BlackBerry devices after the carriers all over the world introduce it. It is a strong possibility that other carrier may introduce Pearl 9100 first or around the same time frame, as I have hardly seen Fido being the very first carrier to launch any new device and we still have full April month to go. We have the WES 2010 coming in late April, and positively we should expect to see some solid news or may be official launch of Pearl 9100 in WES.

There are some info floating around regarding RIM introducing another service/host of features under the name of BlackBerry Shield. If you look at what this BlackBerry Shield has to offer, it looks similar to what SmrtGuard is already providing up to a greater extent. I am not sure if this was the reason why SmrtGuard introduced their Free version or it was planned marketing strategy to leverage their premium offering. In any case if your BlackBerry is still missing these great features, you have the SmartGuard Free version available along with their premium features to try for 30 days.

BlackBerry Shield Features

• Remote Device Wipe – in case of loss of the terminal, just log in to BB Shield to remove all data from the device and / or memory card.
• "Lost & Found" Screen – you can customize the sentence on the screen to display that the BlackBerry is lost and show any information about the content.
• The ability to remotely set the password on the BlackBerry
• A loud bell alarm - useful option, even if you’ve lost your BlackBerry (at home) – once you’ve activated this option, your BB will ‘behave’ loud sounding an alarm, which will hopefully prompt a passerby (or yourself) to pick up your lost BlackBerry.
• Tracking capability – based on the GSM transmitters and/ or GPS position that is constantly monitored in the BlackBerry unit, and there may be the possibility of seeing it on the map (like Google Maps) from the BB Shield dashboard.
• Backup – create wireless backup and restore, which can be set automatically exercise in the given time intervals

It is still unclear about the pricing and release date info about this service. My guess about the price tag is it may be provided for free as another 3rd party is already offering for free. Rumors are it might get released sometime in April or in around WES 2010 time line.

The BlackBerry Slider is hot and mysterious now a days with rumors/leaks coming out on a regular basis. We have these interesting pictures of what OS 6.0 might be as posted by BBleaks. There hasn’t been any operational BlackBerry spotted running OS 6.0 as of yet. We also have another tidbit from Engadget about CEO of Woojeon & Handan, a Korean based parts supplier to RIM, mentioning  a new BlackBerry code named “T”, possibly the BlackBerry Slider, is going to be released in April 2010. The OS 6.0 looks like using the widgets and with the introduction of Push Services and Super Apps, RIM is on the way to bring the best competing OS on a BlackBerry smartphone. We’re seeing some or the other leaked BlackBerry info every week may be because BlackBerry enthusiasts are showing up high interest in leaked content and digging it out very religiously. This week we have some more clear images of this prototype BlackBerry known as Slider. So far, all the leaked images do not show any powered up screen so nothing much to confirm about the OS or whether it has touch screen or not but it’s getting more interesting as we see the pictures coming out about this hybrid model.

As we have learnt from past hardware leaks, things will improve and change in the actual releases as these prototypes are very early in house models. So far one picture shows it has the F-S1 battery and it’s fairy thicker and a bit longer in the picture showing it next to Curve 8900.

So far, rumors about this BlackBerry Slider says: it has screen like Storm series without SurePress and a full qwerty physical keyboard like Bold 9000 and may get 9700a as the model number. Nothing is solid about the camera resolution, series name or the model number but one thing is sure without saying that the BlackBerry Slider is the most mysterious devices. What do you think?

As indicated in previous post, rumors are Verizon may be launching this upcoming BlackBerry 9650 in May and it’s branded as Bold not Tour. Normally Tour devices follow 96xx naming convention however the user guide found along with this leaked OS for not release BlackBerry references the 9650 as BlackBerry Bold 9650. The last Bold followed 97xx naming convention and it should be the series for future Bold devices however it’s not the case this time. I do not see any logical reason for RIM to mix up well followed naming convention however the above information is derived from leaked content and it may get changed at the time of official launch either the Series name or the device number. Meanwhile browse through the leaked user guide of BlackBerry Bold 9650 and let us know if you find any logic in naming this upcoming BlackBerry as Bold 9650. [Credit]

[Update: This device is officially launched as BlackBerry Bold 9650 by RIM at WES 2010.]

We have the leaked OS for BlackBerry 9650 out even through the hardware is not released yet and it may be the indication of official release date arriving soon for this new 9650. The BGR is indicating Verizon to launch BlackBerry 9650 in around May and it will contain a Push-To-Talk feature that will run over Verizon’s data network for a $5/month fee. It not solid about RIM releasing this new model as Bold or Tour but there are more chances that it will follow Tour family and may launched as Tour 9650. What’s your guess?
